Primary source snapshot: 2026-09-08

CONTENTS
sample.csv: 100 real rows, all 30 columns from grants.csv.
Repeatable selection; not a statistically representative sample. The legend describes the full product; companion data tables are only in the full download.

FEATURES AND PREPARATION
- Paid, approved-future and Schedule I assistance records retain their different meanings.
- Every captured XML object is reconciled against the complete IRS indexes.
- All filing versions remain visible; registry matches expose their method and uncertainty.
- Latest captured versions are selected separately for each filer, tax period and return type; unrelated tax returns do not hide giving disclosures.
- Schedule I recipient Internal Revenue Code section strings remain as reported, alongside registry-match evidence.
- U.S. and foreign recipient addresses retain separate street, city, region and postal fields; foreign country codes remain as filed.

USING THE FILES
legend.csv defines the columns, units, formats and blank-value meanings.
CSV is UTF-8 with headers. Import identifiers, ZIP codes and phones as text. Blank differs from zero or false.
LICENSES.txt contains source attribution and applicable notices.

LIMITATIONS
- Processing years differ from grant reporting periods; this is historical disclosed giving, not open funding opportunities.
- Schedule I has reporting thresholds and exclusions; these records do not enumerate every U.S. grant.
- Person-only and unnamed recipients, creative purpose narratives, preparers and officer details are withheld.
- Join by object_id and filter filings.csv latest_captured_for_filer_period before aggregating versions; flags are per filer, period and return type; approved future and noncash amounts must remain separate.
- EO BMF matches reflect the separately captured registry, not recipient identity or eligibility at the grant date.
- Extraction covers Schedule I organizational assistance and Form 990-PF grant schedules; Schedule F foreign-assistance schedules are outside this product.
- cash_amount_usd is Schedule I cash or Form 990-PF reported grant amount according to grant_kind; the extracted foundation group does not separate cash/noncash components.
- Negative reported grant amounts remain source evidence; they are not silently clipped to zero. The full grant table exceeds ordinary spreadsheet row limits and should be read with a database or a streamed CSV reader.
